Design Vision

Merchant’s house with monument number 2373. Dating back to 1687, as part of the fourth expansion of the canal belt. All ownership deeds (notarial acts) from the establishment of the property are still present. It was commissioned by Laurens Wittebol, who also commissioned the construction of numbers 503 and 505. In the eighteenth century, the properties remained under the ownership of various individuals, including Louis Assenberg and later Bernardus de Bie. The house, along with the neighboring properties at 503 and 505, was built as a trio of gabled houses. In the early nineteenth century, the neck gable of this property was altered into a straight cornice façade, while retaining the original stoop, unlike the neighboring houses.

Living, Cooking, and the Garden
Entrance via the original stoop, leading into a grand hallway with marble floor tiles and wall finishes. The centrally located staircase provides a good connection between the front and rear rooms. At the back of the house is the living room, featuring a beautiful ceiling with decorative moldings and a marble fireplace with an open hearth. French doors lead to the rooftop terrace on the extension, with a staircase providing access to the garden as well. The custom-made kitchen is situated in the middle section, connecting the rear living area with the dining room at the front. This room also features a ceiling with decorative moldings and a marble fireplace. The large window allows plenty of natural light to enter and offers a stunning view of the canal.
Beneath the house, accessible via the central staircase, there is a wine cellar. The deep garden, over 30 meters long, is filled with various blooming plants and shrubs. Thanks to its depth, there is always sunshine somewhere in the garden throughout the day. In short, it’s an oasis in the city center, as the gardens between Keizersgracht and Herengracht are the widest and least built-up. At the back of the garden is the Gouden Bocht with its extra-large, imposing houses. There is also a garden house at the rear, designed as a guesthouse with its own sanitary facilities. The property is located within a so-called “color block.”

Slapen en baden

The Independent Apartments
Second Floor

This floor is arranged as an independent apartment of approximately 60 m². It features a living room at the front with two windows overlooking the canal. In the central section, there is a simple kitchen and a bathroom with a shower and sink. At the rear, there is a bedroom with two windows facing the garden and a separate toilet.

Attic Floor
This floor is also set up as an independent apartment of approximately 46 m², consisting of a living room at the front, a centrally located kitchen and bathroom, and a bedroom at the rear. Additionally, there is a storage attic covering the entire roof level, accessible via two loft ladders.

Souterrain
Accessible via a second entrance under the stoop. This independent apartment has a bedroom facing the canal, a hallway with a bathroom and toilet, and a living-dining room at the rear with French doors opening to the garden. The kitchen is located in the extension and also provides access to the garden. The kitchen still retains antique (authentic) tiles and cabinets. On the mezzanine above the kitchen, there is a second bedroom with built-in wardrobes.

A quiet, cozy, and above all, central location with charming restaurants and cafés such as Maribelle, De Heuvel, and specialty shops in the immediate vicinity. Some establishments known for their quality include Patisserie Holtkamp, the Italian slow food deli Casa Del Gusto on Kerkstraat, Bocca Coffee, Lavinia Good Food, and boulangerie Noe on the corner of Vijzelgracht. Additionally, many residents enjoy a stroll or bike ride to the Jordaan for the Noordermarkt. Thanks to the central location, everything is within walking or biking distance, making it a wonderful place to live.

Accessibility
The property has excellent public transport connections, thanks to the Noord/Zuidlijn metro and convenient tram services on Leidsestraat and Vijzelgracht. All stops are just a few minutes’ walk away.
By car, the canal house is accessible via the S100 and S110 roads. However, cycling is the most efficient way to navigate the city center quickly. Due to its central location, nearly everything can be reached within 20 minutes.

Parking
Parking is available through a permit system in the Centrum – 2 area. The estimated waiting time for a permit is eleven months, with priority given to electric vehicles. The cost is €315.60 per half-year. There are also several nearby parking garages with rental options. For instance, there is a garage just 50 meters from the house where spaces are available for rent. Additionally, a large parking garage is being developed near the Noord/Zuidlijn station at Vijzelgracht, which will also cater to permit holders.
