The building
This canal house on the Herengracht is distinguished by its narrow plastered details under a straight cornice with consoles, a subtle dormer, and a classic balustrade, dating back to around 1800. The facade and window frames are from the 19th century, contributing to the historical charm of this unique property. The house was fully renovated in 2009/2010, including a new foundation. Located in the canal belt, part of the historic center of Amsterdam, this house offers a unique living experience along the four main canals: Singel, Herengracht, Keizersgracht, and Prinsengracht.
The canal belt is a system of streets, quays, bridges, and residential buildings on identical plots with enclosed gardens, known as “keurblokken.” Many canal houses bear witness to the prosperity of the Golden Age and the 18th century, with various architectural styles and facades standing side by side. The park-like garden offers an oasis of tranquility in the heart of the city, surrounded by greenery.
