Loft “De Lelie”
Our office oversees the sale of a diverse range of properties. As a real estate agent, this variety is very challenging and contributes to the overall picture you get of the housing market in Amsterdam. Personally, I have a soft spot for the Jordaan, where I have worked for a long time at another office. This has allowed me to better understand and appreciate the neighborhood. The dynamics of the area are very pleasant, and the amenities are good. On the Rozengracht, Westerstraat, and numerous side streets, there is a diversity of shops, specialty stores, and caterers to be found. In addition, there are various good restaurants and cozy cafés in the area. The apartment at Nieuwe Leliestraat 130 hs that our office is selling is a unique loft located in a former printing house on the ground floor in the city center. The potential buyer can, after a thorough renovation, which also includes repairing the foundation, refurbish and live in the house entirely to their own taste. It is special that you are just a stone’s throw away from the urban dynamics, but experience an oasis of peace in the house. If you are further interested, I would like to invite you to come by. Of course, I will then tell you more about the apartment. Perhaps see you soon.

Design vision
The building at Nieuwe Leliestraat 130 – 132 has a rich history, during which its appearance has undergone several drastic changes. The first transformation occurred in 1907, when the somewhat austere façade was embellished with richer detailing and numerous decorative elements. However, by the 1960s, it became evident that the building’s quality had significantly deteriorated. There was talk of foundation repair at the time, but it was ultimately deemed impossible. In 1965/1966, both the building at number 130 and 132 were demolished, and a completely new structure was erected, which subsequently housed a reproduction company and a printing office. Later, the commercial space was converted into residential space, resulting in this loft home. Compared to other old buildings in the street, the building at Nieuwe Leliestraat features a unique façade width of nearly 8 meters, which is reflected in the residence. Additionally, the building has acquired a more functional/industrial look. Now, in 2024, the building is slated for another comprehensive renovation due to the necessary foundation repair and the internal modernization of the home.
Living and cooking
The layout of this loft residence is characterized by a playful and spacious design. This begins right at the entrance from the street, leading into the large hallway where the toilet is also located. The living, dining, and kitchen areas are centrally situated within the home. The varying ceiling heights, ranging from 2.57 to 3.42 meters, combined with several windows, make the space very bright yet still intimate for living. The two large conservatory roofs and the nearly 8-meter width complete the ambiance of this loft. At the front, there’s a multifunctional space that can be used as a studio, storage, and/or utility room. Despite the need for thorough modernization internally and foundation repairs, this space offers the potential to create a truly unique home in the heart of the Jordaan.
Sleeping and bathing
The spacious bedroom is located at the rear of the home and is in open connection with the dining and living areas. Adjacent to it are the bathroom and the walk-in closet. The bathroom features a walk-in shower and a washbasin. The walk-in closet has various built-in wardrobes and also provides access to the terrace via a fixed staircase and a roof hatch. The two large glass skylights offer a unique experience under a clear sky. During the extensive renovation, there is the possibility to create additional bedrooms.
The rooftop terrace
Accessible via a fixed staircase in the walk-in closet and through a roof hatch, the rooftop terrace spans approximately 39 m² and faces northwest. It’s the perfect spot for basking in the sun. The terrace is lush with a variety of plants and flowers, making it a wonderful place to enjoy the greenery, the tranquility, and momentarily forget the hustle and bustle of the city. According to the division deed, the use of the roof as a terrace is permitted. However, an environmental permit for the construction of the rooftop terrace has never been applied for.

What the owners will miss
Our home consists of one large, high, open space. The industrial character of the former printing house is still visible. In the middle of this space sits our large dining table. It’s where we live, entertain guests, surrounded by books, many paintings, sculptures, and objects. Above our heads are two large skylights with views of the rooftop terrace. And when the sun shines, the house becomes flooded with light. Because the space is so vast, we often participated in the annual storytelling festival in Nieuwe Leliestraat. In the blink of an eye, the house would be transformed into a theater. And if the Puur Mokum choir wanted extra rehearsal time before a performance? No problem. Hosting a cocktail party for fifty people? It was all possible. Then there’s Willem’s own workshop, where he crafts his metalwork. He sets elements of lead, copper, or brass on a zinc plate. He’s already sold hundreds of them. Now that we’re older and part of the house needs to be partially rebuilt, we’re reluctantly seeking a new spot after more than twenty years, but we want it to be nearby. We don’t want to lose this part of the Jordaan either.
